Some members of the Pan African Congress (PAC) in Limpopo’s Vhembe region have accused party leader Mzwanele Nyontsho of betraying the party’s core values. They claim Nyontsho has compromised the party’s foundational principles, particularly its stance on land advocacy.
The members noted that PAC founder Robert Sobukwe broke away from the ANC, citing the party’s perceived abandonment of land restitution for previously dispossessed Black Africans as a key reason.
The PAC members criticized Nyontsho, now a Minister of Land Reform, for his silence on land restitution for Black people. They expressed disappointment, saying he prioritizes luxury over the party’s core mission of land reform, which has been a central issue for the movement.
The PAC members also accused Nyontsho of voting with the ANC to appoint Enoch Godongwana as Finance Minister, which led to a 0.5% VAT increase. They claim this decision was driven by self-interest to maintain a seat in the Government of National Unity (GNU), rather than prioritizing the welfare of poor Black people.
