MEC RACHOENE HAS WARNED PUBLIC WORKS EMPLOYEES WHO SLEEPS UNDER TREES DURING WORKING HOURS

Limpopo Public Works MEC Ernest Rachoene has warned employees and Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers against sleeping on duty, particularly under trees during working hours. Rachoene says a new dawn of professionalism and a people-centered ethics has arrived in his department .

Rachoene was speaking during the launch of “OperationTsogaMoshomi” .The new programme aims to rekindle dedication, discipline and bring the principle of Batho Pele at Public Works Department.OperationTsogaMoshomi which translates Wake Up and Work was launched today in Polokwane.

“We are not just employees of government. We are public servants –
The campaign will include regular monitoring of departmental projects, intensified site visits, performance appraisals, and open dialogues between management and employees. It will also celebrate excellence and hard work through internal recognition programmes that highlight individuals and teams who go above and beyond in fulfilling their duties.

We are in a process of building internal capacity where we are employing people at our 36 cost centres, district offices and at Head Office, so now it’s time to monitor them to make sure work is done.” says MEC Rachoene.

Rachoene says the program those recently hired in the department through the DikgereKgere program will have to use the graders and internal resources of the department to ensure services are delivered to the people. This service includes fixing roads, patching of potholes, and maintenance of government infrastructure.
