Captain Virginai Kupa attached to Kwazulu-Natal Hawks Priority Crime Management Centre and Brigadier Mapome Mohajane based at Hawks head office appeared at Bela Bela Magistrate court.
It is alleged that Captain Kupa attempted to recruit Mohajane to interfere in the ongoing investigation related to political killing of Mogalakwena councillor Valtyn Kekana and Ralph Kanyane.
Kekana and Kanyane were shot and killed in cold blood in Mokopane in 2019. The duo were fighting corruption at Mogalakwena when they were shot.
Five top politicinas in Mogalakwena were arrested but the case was provisionally withrawn under suspicious circusntances.
Hawks spokesperson Thandi Mbambo says the two accused top cop were allegedlgy promised tenders if they interffered with investigations. Brigadier Mohajana was arrested on 15 January 2025 following extensive investigations. The probe later led to the arrest of Captain Kupa.
Captain Kupa was released on R3000 bail. The matter has been postponed to 26 August 2025 for further investigations.
