Limpopo’s Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has made notable contributions to job creation in the province. According to the latest unemployment figures from Stats SA, national unemployment dropped to 31.9%.
In Limpopo, unemployment fell by 35% — the sharpest decline of all provinces.
The rise in employment can be linked to job creation in mining, agriculture, and the public sector.
The biggest driver of the increase is the Limpopo Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.
Under MEC Ernest Rachoene, the department has hired more than 400 permanent workers in a year.
The MEC plans to add another 160 permanent workers by the end of November and has recently advertised 88 more permanent positions.
