Former South African President Thabo Mbeki has revealed that most far-right-wing Afrikaner groups celebrated the death of long-time serving ANC President Oliver Tambo. Speaking during a podcast with former EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, Mbheki described Tambo as a fearless leader who was very strategic.
“I agree that Tambo was the founding father of democracy in South Africa. He worked for a long time to mobilise the international community against apartheid. I had worked with him very closely, and he is a man of principle,Because he was a strategic leader, right wing Afrikaaner groups like Boeremag celebrated when he died” Mbeki said.
He says Tambo will prepare for days before attending the ANC National Executive Committee. Mbeki says the leadership of OR Tambo was crucial today in saving the ANC.
He also conceded that the ANC of today was infiltrated after the 2008 ANC National Conference in Polokwane.
“After the Polokwane conference, the ANC had a new form of leadership. And the country took a new turn altogether. We had what we now call the wasted 15 years in the ANC,” Mbeki said.
