The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Thamsanqa Ntuli, has taken a bold step in the fight against crime by initiating a two-day Provincial Council Against Crime (CAC) strategic planning session in Durban. This initiative aims to enhance collaboration between the Provincial Government, Civil Society, and national structures to effectively combat crime in the province.
During the strategic planning session, Premier Ntuli outlined the key objectives of the Provincial CAC. One of the main goals is to establish a permanent platform at the provincial level that will facilitate structured engagement between stakeholders. This platform will enable the sharing of information, resources, and strategies to enhance the department’s mandate in combating crime effectively.
To ensure the effectiveness of its programs, the Provincial CAC will be structured in a way that fosters collaboration and cooperation among stakeholders. This multi-stakeholder approach will enable the development of comprehensive strategies to tackle crime in KwaZulu-Natal.
One of the key discussion topics during the strategic planning session is “Shifting Realities: Understanding public perceptions of crime in KwaZulu-Natal.” This topic highlights the importance of understanding how crime is perceived by the public and how these perceptions impact the effectiveness of crime prevention efforts. By addressing public perceptions and attitudes towards crime, the Provincial CAC will be better equipped to tailor its programs to meet the specific needs of the communities it serves.
