The World Anti-Cyber-Bullying Organisation (WAO) has condemned the ongoing sharing of a video showing two individuals involved in sexual acts. WAO warns the public to stop sharing the video as it infringes on the individuals’ right to privacy. According to WAO founder Mahlatse Phaladi, sharing the video could damage the victims’ reputation and potentially lead to severe emotional distress, including suicidal thoughts.
Mahlatse reports that families of the victims reached out to the group for mental health aid. The woman involved ended up in the hospital after a suicide attempt. Bullying, as Mahlatse points out, can’t take the place of a human life.
“At WAO, we have witnessed the harm from careless social media posts. We urged the public to prioritize victims’ safety. Yesterday, the family contacted our group. They shared that the woman is at risk of suicide. We ask our community to use social media with care and respect victims’ families, Mahlatse stated.
