A Grade 4 learner from Moriting Primary School in Mankweng, outside Polokwane in Limpopo has tragically passed away after suffocating from a pen’s lid. According to the Limpopo Department of Education, the incident occurred when the learner accidentally swallowed a pen’s lid.
The learner reported difficulty in breathing to his teacher, and immediate efforts were made to rush him to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite the efforts they were unable to save him.
MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has expressed condolences and confirmed that the department has deployed psychosocial services to support both the family and the school community.
