Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba says they will request additional R30 million from the Treasury to bail out the Polokwane International Airport. This move comes despite the airport’s request for over R200 million from the provincial government.
GAAL CEO, Mokgadi Matli, informed Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba during an oversight visit that the airport requires an additional R30 million to procure the Instrument Landing System (ILS) equipment. The equipment has been out of order for over five years, hindering flights from landing safely during adverse weather conditions.

Two weeks back the airport lost over 40 thousand rands due to flight cancellation. This after over six flights could not land at the airport due to a delay in the approval of flight manual procedures from Air Traffic and Navigation Services(ATNS)
Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba has expressed concern that the airport management failed to include the Instrument Landing System (ILS) challenges in the provincial budget. The ILS equipment has been out of order for over five years, causing flight cancellations and safety issues. Ramathuba stated that the province will request an additional R30 million to procure the system during the budget adjustment process.
