Limpopo ANC Spokesperson Jimmy Machaka paid tribute to ANC veteran Charlotte Makgomo Maxeke by organizing a soccer tournament in her honor at his home village of Botlokwa near Polokwane. The tournament aimed to engage young boys in sports and keep them off the streets, while celebrating Maxeke’s legacy
Jimmy Machaka said, “As we honor Mme Maxeke, who hails from this village, we ensure young boys are kept off the streets through soccer. Soccer fosters social cohesion. This is what we believe Mme Maxeke would have wanted for young boys”

The tournament featured 16 teams from various communities competing for top honors. The winning team will receive soccer kits and trophies as prizes. This annual event aims to promote sports development and community engagement in the region.

Charlotte Maxeke was born at Ga-Ramokgopha in Botlokwa. She became a prominent political activist in 1902, organizing anti-colonial campaigns against the white rule government. Maxeke passed away at the age of 68 in April.
Jimmy Machaka, also from Botlokwa, stated that the tournament will continue annually to honor Charlotte Maxeke’s legacy and contributions.
