Motorists using Mandela Drive next to Extension in Polokwane say they are forced to endure long traffic due to the unfinished multimillion-rand bridge. The bridge constructed in 2019 has been left unfinished due to the contractor abandoning the site.

The municipality has used over 55- million rand but the bridge is unfinished. Several motorists have tumbled over the bridge. Some frustrated motorists want the Polokwane Mayor John Mpe to fix the problem or step down.
Tshepo Moshweu a taxi driver said ” We are concerned about this bridge. It has been like this for decades, when it is raining we get affected and we even cause accidents. If John Mpe can’t rebuild a proper bridge, then he must step down”

The municipality has also abandoned the Softball stadium next to Peter Mokaba Stadium. The municipality has squandered over 100 million rands and the contractor abandoned the site. The stadium is now a white elephant despite millions of tax payers money used. The municipality is requesting an extra 189 million to complete the stadium. Action Sa provincial leader Victor Mothemela has called for Mayor John Mpe to step down as he had failed residents.

Residents of Mankweng are also suffering a similar fate at the hands of the Polokwane municipality. The multimillion-rand Mankweng stadium has now become a white elephant. This is despite the municipality using over 30 million rand to build the stadium. Concerned residents want the Polokwane Mayor to account for the stadium failure.
Seko Mamabolo a resident said ” We are tired of looking at this stadium and not being able to use it. It has been like this for a long time. We have urged the Polokwane Mayor to come here and assist us but we are not being assisted. The Mayor must just leave office. We don’t want him anymore”

The municipality has also lost over 100 million due to corruption relating to the procurement of the Leeto La Polokwane Buses. The municipality paid the extra money for the buses that were never delivered. Several senior officials have been suspended over the corruption. The Workers Union SAMWU wants the Polokwane Mayor to account for the alleged corruption.
